At the heart of Social Science is the stimulation of curiosity and empathy, promoting an interdisciplinary understanding of human behaviour. Social Science at the Westgate School equips students with the skills, tools and knowledge to better understand the ever-changing world that we find ourselves in.

We develop a strong moral compass in our students by exploring real life people and real-world issues in a holistic manner; viewing from a wide range of perspectives and encouraging students to voice their opinions and ideas in a safe and nurturing environment. This allows them to relate and empathise with others and interact with the world in a thoughtful way. We challenge students to critically evaluate, justify and apply knowledge which prepares them for the workplace and the outside world.

Through progressive topics, students will be exposed to differing opinions and theoretical arguments and will be encouraged to deal with socially sensitive and controversial topics through mature, informed debate.

The success of Social Science is in fostering confidence to question, reflect and engage not only with Social Science themes within the classroom but also throughout students’ lives.
