A-Level Religious Studies | WJEC Eduqas |
We aim to create global citizens equipped to assess received opinion and make independent judgments. Pupils who are aware of the past, present, and future of the world around them. In Religious Studies pupils gain an insight into how others view the world and develop an understanding of how people’s beliefs shape the world in which they live. They investigate philosophy and ethics to allow them to become self-aware and able to come to informed opinions.
Religious Studies lessons focus on developing a knowledge rich student. Pupils should experience a curriculum that sequentially builds up deep understanding of topics. One in which knowledge is not merely encountered but comprehended and remembered. This is ensured through consistent application of retrieval practice principles and to ensuring that pupils are equipped with the language to engage with topics in a meaningful way.

More Department Information
Belief
We aim to explore what people believe and why, examining the diverse worldviews and faith traditions that inspire individuals and communities. Students will gain insight into the teachings, sacred texts, and values of major world religions and secular perspectives, promoting intellectual curiosity and empathy.
Belonging
We investigate how people belong to their religious communities, considering rituals, worship, and the sense of shared identity. Through this, students will understand how faith provides meaning and connection, shaping personal and communal lives across the globe.
Behaviour
We examine how beliefs influence actions and decisions, exploring how religious and ethical principles guide behaviour in personal and societal contexts. Students will reflect on moral dilemmas, social justice issues, and the ways in which belief systems impact daily life.
Through these aims, our department seeks to nurture informed, open-minded, and reflective learners who can confidently navigate and contribute to a multicultural, multi-faith society.
