Year 10s Conquer Their Bronze DofE Practice Expedition

The year 10s embarked on their practice expedition for their Bronze DofE Award in April. They spent two days out in our local countryside exploring environments they’d never seen before. Using all the skills they learned during their training day, they had the opportunity to put it all into practice. On day one they were dropped off at Boulter’s Loch in Maidenhead and with the support of their instructors, they were able to safely navigate their way to camp over in Dorney Woods. The challenge continued after arriving at their destination as they had to learn how to pitch their tents and cook dinner as a group (with instructor support)!

After a frosty night in Dorney, the teams were up again bright and early to take on day two. They packed up camp and made breakfast before heading out on their first leg of the day. The second day of walking was unsupervised with occasional check-ins from the instructors along the way. This allowed room for the groups to start making mistakes and learning how to rectify them before having to backtrack too far. After a long, but exciting day, the groups started arriving at the finish line. They were tired and ready for bed, but were ultimately ready to do it all over again the next week for their assessment expedition!
