Exploring Iconic London Galleries

We recently took our Year 10 art students on an inspiring trip to the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. The National Gallery, one of London’s largest and most renowned galleries, is located in Trafalgar Square. Housed in a magnificent building with grand rooms and expansive archways, it features an extensive collection of artwork. The students were thrilled to see masterpieces by iconic artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, and Turner.

We enjoyed lunch in Trafalgar Square, taking in the lively atmosphere of street performers and the beauty of the fountains.

Our next stop was the recently renovated National Portrait Gallery, home to the world’s most extensive collection of portraits, spanning from the 8th century to the present day. The students appreciated the diverse range of portrait styles, from traditional to modern.

Experiencing the artwork firsthand left a strong impression on the students, with many captivated by the scale, colours, and techniques used. They thoroughly enjoyed the day, gaining valuable insights and inspiration to support their coursework.
