Checkmate! Hosting for a Friendly Chess Showdown
On Friday, 6 December, we welcomed nine students from St. Joseph's Catholic High School for a friendly chess competition with some of our most dedicated chess club members. Westgate players were each matched with a St Joseph's student. They played two 10-minute games in their pairs under the supervision of Ms Mulligan and Mr Stewart, chess club leads for Westgate and St Joesph's.
Students from both schools played brilliantly with some pairings being so closely matched that wins were very hard-fought! As one participant noted 'the chess tournament was quite a challenge - everyone put up a good fight'.
We're incredibly proud of our students for their great behaviour, good sportsmanship, and welcoming nature towards their adversaries. We hope to hold another competition soon!
